Ayurveda Medicines for Constipation
Constipation is a symptom, not a disease, and can be caused by many factors. The most common are poor diet and lack of exercise. Other causes include irritable bowel syndrome, pregnancy, laxative abuse, travel, specific diseases, hormonal disturbances, loss of body salts and nerve damage.
Draksharishta: A reputed tonic acclaimed with laurels. Helps to clean bowels.
Dosage: To be taken with equal quantity of water in 10ml dosage after meals.
Swarnakravyadarasa: A trusted remedy for acute as well as chronic digestive troubles. It improves general health by setting right the digestive system.
Dosage: 1 g = 5 doses. One dose after meals twice / thrice daily with butter milk / water.
Sukhavirechanavati: It is a safe laxative.
Dosage: One pill (or) Two pills. Take one pill with hot water at bedtime. Ensures one or two free motions in the morning. If necessary two pills are to be taken.
Caution: To be used under medical supervision only. Should not be used for children below ten years, old people and pregnant women.
Trivrut Lehya: It is a good harmless laxative. Puts off constipation, on regular usage. Very comfortable for patients of piles.
Dosage: 6g to 12g. To be taken before bedtime with hot water. It produces one or two motions in the morning.
Triphalachurna: Removes constipation. Useful as an adjunct also.
Dosage: 5g to 10g. To be taken with hot water daily at night before bed.
Pravalapanchamrutha Bhasma: Useful in sula and parinama sula, enlargement of liver, spleen and abdomen, abdominal tumors.
Dosage: One tablet twice a day with buttermilk (or) as directed by the physician.

According to the constitution of the body, diet follow-up is essential for health and longevity. Every patient should observe precautions in diet the time of usage of the medicine to avoid aggravation and to obtain speedy results.
